Biography

Attorney Melanie M. Marmer has more than 30 years of legal experience practicing in civil and criminal courts throughout Brooklyn, the Boroughs of New York and Nassau County. Her work focuses on the areas of criminal defense, family law, divorce, estates and wills, and probate proceedings. In all matters, Ms. Marmer aims to provide exceptional client service, including personal attention, aggressive representation and, of course, favorable results.

A Brooklyn native, Ms. Marmer completed her undergraduate education at Stern College of Yeshiva University, and went on to earn her Juris Doctor from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in 1988. Before going into private practice, she worked as a prosecutor for the Kings County District Attorney’s Office in Brooklyn. She has also served as a hearing officer for the Transit Adjudication Bureau for 18 years. Now, alongside her criminal and civil practice, she also serves as a court evaluator for the Office of Court Administration (OCA), and as a guardian ad litem for guardianship and surrogate matters. Over the years, Ms. Marmer has amassed a wealth of trial experience in all types of criminal, family and divorce cases.

Melanie grew up in Bensonhurst and lived in Brooklyn her entire life. She is hard working mother of two daughters. She volunteered as the mock trial coach for her daughters’ high school in Nassau. She currently serves as a Board member of her daughters’ elementary school and a Board member of her local synagogue. She is involved with many charity projects in the Brooklyn community and in Israel. She has been honored for her service to these organizations over the last two years.

Ms. Marmer is a member of the Brooklyn Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, and the Kings County Criminal Bar Association. She is fluent in Hebrew, and has experience working with Israeli attorneys on international estate matters.
